Stuart is the firm's senior partner. Prior to forming Kessler & Keirnan with Terese Keirnan, his long-time associate and friend, Stuart was the President of Stuart M. Kessler, P.C., which he founded in 1983. After practicing for several years as a general litigation attorney, Stuart changed the focus of his practice to concentrate in real estate law. He has over 20 years of experience in both conventional (sellers or buyers) and REO residential and commercial real estate contracts and closings.

Stuart's REO clients include a wide range of asset management companies, servicers, outsourcers, lenders, and GSE's. He deals from the seller's perspective with a variety of REO dispositions on properties located throughout the state of Illinois, including those involving forward and reverse mortgages, DIL's, and short sales. Stuart is involved in all phases of the closing process, including reviewing and negotiating the contracts, attending to attorney review and property inspection issues, placing title orders, reviewing and clearing title, preparing closing figures for HUD-1's, master statements and closing disclosures, as well as coordinating the closing and funding of the transactions and resolving any post-closing issues.

In the conventional real estate market, Stuart's clients range from first-time home buyers and sellers to sophisticated investors and developers. In addition to performing legal services similar to those he provides on REO transactions, Stuart is involved in survey and mortgage loan payoff procurement. He also routinely attends closings on behalf of sellers and buyers. Stuart appreciates how overwhelming the closing process can be even for sophisticated clients. He strongly believes that attorneys should perform all legal functions in the closing process and that effective communication among all the participants in the transaction is essential to ensure a timely and successful closing.

Client procurement, liaison services and client satisfaction are of particular interest to Stuart. He is adept at educating agents and brokers about all aspects of the real estate title and closing process. He has appeared as a panelist at numerous industry conventions and has authored various power point presentations for profesional educational programs.

Stuart enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf. Travel is at the top of his list of free time activities along with cheering for Chicago's sports teams, especially his beloved White Sox!
